Schjerpen hoping to secure the Optimum result in Portimao

Aleksander Schjerpen is set to return to the Creventic 24H Series this weekend, teaming up with his former rivals in SP3; Optimum Motorsport alongside Dan O’Brien and Ollie Wilkinson.

Currently leading the championship, O’Brien will be hoping to benefit from his new co-drivers experience to maintain his lead and solidify his place on the top spot of the ultra-competitive SP3 Championship.

While Wilkinson is a 24H Series debutante, Aleksander is no stranger to the series, having won the SP3 class on his twice around the clock debut in Dubai in 2016, before returning to the series earlier this year for the 12 Hour race at Imola in an A6Pro Lamborghini. Unable to assemble a team of drivers for the Leipert Motorsport Lamborghini for this penultimate round of the 2017 series, Schjerpen opted to team up with multiple race winning team Optimum Motorsport in an effort to gain further long distance experience ahead of the hotly anticipated final round at the Circuit of the Americas in Texas in November.

With the optional testing and free practice sessions starting later this week, Schjerpen will be aiming to recall his extensive Ginetta G55 experience from multiple British GT campaigns over the past three seasons to aid his challenge for the top spot when 24 hours of racing is complete on Sunday afternoon.

Aleksander Schjerpen – Optimum Motorsport Ginetta G55 GT4:
“I am really happy to be joining up with the guys at Optimum Motorsport for the Portimao round of the 24H Series. It’s been a bit of a mixed programme for me this year, but I think despite the bad luck we had while competing with another team at Imola, I showed that my pace was good during my stints. I know the Ginetta really well from my time in British GT and winning the Dubai 24 Hours in 2016, so I’m feeling really confident that we can get a really good result in Portugal this weekend.”

Shaun Goff – Team Principal, Optimum Motorsport:
“We head to Portugal with the aim of wrapping up the GT4 class, so I’m delighted that Dan [O’Brien] is competing and defending the championship lead. It also gives me great pleasure to see Ollie [Wilkinson] step up with us into the category. He’s been excellent in the GT5 series and it will be fascinating to see how he progresses over the weekend. We also know Aleksander well from the 24H Series and also from British GT. He’s done a lot of racing in the G55, so he can only be an asset to us this weekend.”
